Restábal

Restábal is the largest of the three villages that along with Saleres and Melegís make up the municipality of El Valle. It has all necessary amenties – townhall, shops, a pharmacy, doctor's surgery, a bank and the school. There are also a couple of bars and the restaurant Meson La Despensa del Valle which is well known locally for its roast lamb.

There are excellent walks down to the lake of Beznar and up into the hills. Restábal also has stunning views across the lake from the road to Pinos del Valle.

The village boasts a number of tiny shrines and chapels, tucked away but well worth seeking out – the remains of a Moorish castle from the Nasrid period (13th – 15th centuries), the Calle Real marketplace, and the parish church of St Christopher dating from the 16th century and restored after a fire in 1965.

Restábal celebrates two fiestas , San Cristobal in late December and Santa Ana in late July.
