Pinos del Valle
Pinos del Valle is divided into two distinct
barrios each with it’s own church. The upper church is the old
Hermitage of San Sebastian and was built in 1830. The Iglesia de la
Inmaculada Concepcion in the lower barrio dates from the sixteenth century.
The village is located in a stunning position on the hillside above
the Beznar reservoir with views of the high Sierra and the Alpujarras.
Set high above the village is the Hermitage
of "el Cristo del zapato" (the Christ of the shoe).
Pinos has shops, bars, a pharmacy and a good bakery near the upper square.
The fiestas are at the beginning of May for the Santo Cristo del Zapato,
when the whole village makes a pilgrimage to the Hermitage, and again
in mid August for San Roque.
