Murchas
A small village with approximately 350 inhabitants,
Murchas is part of the municipality of Lecrin.
Murchas has a small supermarket and an excellent bakery. There are no
bars or restaurants but these can be found one kilometre away in the
village of Talará.
There are some good walks through the olive and citrus groves down to
Melegís and to the ruin of the Castillo de los Moros (Moorish
castle). The European walking route GR7 runs through Murchas to the
Alpujarras.
The Castillo de los Moros is also known as the castle of Zoraida, who
was the wife of the Moorish king Mulhacen. It was constructed in the
eleventh century.
In early January Murchas celebrates the Fiesta de la Virgen de los Desamparados
and Santa Lucia
