Dúrcal

Dúrcal is the second largest town and is considered to be the “capital” of the valley. Although not the prettiest (it suffered a little in the Seventies and early Eighties!), it is a vibrant, bustling place with a wide variety of shops and all amenities.

It has a great café culture with many tapas bars and pubs – it is said to have the highest bar to population ratio in Spain!

Dúrcal’s most important monument is the Puente de Lata (Tin Bridge) – this is a steel bridge spanning the river valley. It was used by trams going to Granada and was built by followers of Eiffel.
The banks of the river are very verdant and there are two popular restaurants opposite one another underneath the bridge, a great place to escape the heat of the summer.

Durcal has a week long fiesta (San Ramon) at the end of August with street parties, competitions and even a bull fight in a temporary stadium on the edge of the town and one in early February dedicated to San Blas, the patron saint of the town
